Sleepless in Cincinnati

A few months ago I saw a clip of an MSNBC report about Lorenne Green, the producer of "Saturday Night Live." He said that they didn’t go on the air because they were ready, they went on the air because it was 11:30 PM on Saturday night.

So it goes for the Citizens for a Fair Vote Count Convention. We didn’t set the Convention for late August, 2000 because we were ready. We called it because it’s a Presidential Election year – and enough evidence and energy seemed to be ready to come together that we had to do it now to galvanize a nationwide fighting force – or let four more years lapse.

Nick Landholt of Kansas arrived on Thursday night. He helped and drove me around in his rented car the next day, while I caught two 45 minutes segments of sleep in the front seat, reclined backwards. If he hadn’t arrived, I don’t know how I would have made it to game time on Friday night.

Putting together the music video for the end of the convention – even though it was only 3 or 4 minutes long, took about a whole day out of the last week – but I think everyone who saw it thought it was worth it. It was a tribute to activists, those who are willing to go into the arena of life, instead of sitting on the sidelines watching and criticizing.
