Buchanan, Phillips, Gore to Debate

  On World Net Daily website you will find an article that Pat Buchanan has joined Howard Phillips and Al Gore in agreeing to debate on Friday, October 20^th at the Ronald Reagan building, three blocks from the White House. The debate is sponsored by Larry Klayman and Judicial Watch. The subject is “Restoring Ethics in Government.”

Phillips was the first to accept the invitation on July 31, 2000. The offices of Ralph Nader (Green Party), Harry Browne (Libertarian Party) and George W. Bush (Republican) have responded that they are favorably disposed to participate, but have not yet sent a formal acceptance.

Gore has made his participation contingent on W. Bush agreeing to three prime time debates with Gore. If those debates are gelled, then presumably Buchanan’s lawsuit to be included will become front and center in importance.

In truth, Phillips of the Constitution Party, Browne of the Libertarian Party, and Nader of the Green Party (assuming Nader is on enough ballots to have the possibility of getting 270 electoral votes) should be included in any nationally televised Presidential debates also.

Buchanan himself has stated on national TV that the Mexican nation saw six participants on the stage in their recent Presidential Debates. “Can’t we at least come up to the democratic standards of Mexico?” Buchanan had asked.

This important debate should be broadcast on C-Span.

Tomorrow: what should be the nation’s response if Buchanan and other third party candidates are excluded from the Bush-Gore debates to be televised on the 5 Big TV Networks?
